A Dance with Dragons Edit

When Ser Davos Seaworth appears in the Merman's Court before her grandfather, Lord Wyman Manderly, Wylla is standing behind him with her sister, Wynafryd Manderly. Davos tells Lord Manderly that King Stannis Baratheon can offer them vengeance, and she pipes out "yes" and states:

They killed Lord Eddard and Lady Catelyn and King Robb. He was our king! He was brave and good and the Freys murdered him. If Lord Stannis will avenge him, we should join Lord Stannis.

Her grandfather tries to quiet Wylla by threatening to send her to the silent sisters. She will not be silenced and goes on to tell of the promises of loyalty House Manderly made to House Stark. Finally, her mother, Lady Leona, has to drag her from the hall. Rhaegar Frey and Lord Wyman agree she is to marry Little Walder Frey.

When Lord Wyman reveals his true feelings about the Freys to Davos later, he calls Wylla very brave.

However, Wylla's outbursts against the Boltons and the Freys did not end there, and would ultimately lead to her demise. An argument escalated between Wylla and Bolton men in what was then known as Fishfoot Yard. Wylla publicly denounced Bolton men who were known to be previously drinking at a nearby brothel, and an argument ensued. Wylla was publicly flayed by the Bolton men, half drunk in their actions, beneath the trident of the statue Old Fishfoot. She died angrily screaming and cursing the Boltons with her last breaths as she was flayed living yet her spirit unbroken, proclaiming the Starks as the true Kings in the North to her death.

After the fall of House Bolton following the Battle of Ice, the area where she was murdered was renamed Wylla's Square, and her remains interned there as a monument. A four-foot tall monolith stands at her grave. Upon it are written the following words:

"You, whoever you are and wherever you come from, for it is known you will come; Here lies Wylla, who died steadfast and true to the Rightful King in the North. Do not therefore begrudge her this bit of soil that covers her bones."

The area stands to this day as a memorial to her, the words left unchanged even though Rickon Stark would bend the knee to Aegon VI Targaryen years later.

To this day, Manderly women are known to traditionally dye their hair green, in remembrance of the bravery of Wylla Manderly.

Quotes by Wylla Edit

I know about the promise … Maester Theomore, tell them! A thousand years before the Conquest, a promise was made, and oaths were sworn in the Wolf's Den before the old gods and the new. When we were sore beset and friendless, hounded from our homes and in peril of our lives, the wolves took us in and nourished us and protected us against our enemies. The city is built upon the land they gave us. In return we swore that we should always be their men. Stark men![4]

Quotes about Wylla Edit

Wylla. Did you see how brave she was? Even when I threatened to have her tongue out, she reminded me of the debt White Harbor owes to the Starks of Winterfell, a debt that can never be repaid. Wylla spoke from the heart ... not every woman can be as brave as my Wylla.[5]
